Stomac

The stomach (from the Ancient Greek στόμαχος / stómakhos) (also called the gastric pouch) is the pouch-shaped portion of the digestive tract located between the esophagus and the duodenum. The esophagus carries food that has been chewed in the mouth and swallowed into the stomach. In humans, the organ is shaped like a capital J; in adults, it measures 25 × 8 × 5 cm, holds 0.5 liters when empty, and can hold up to 4 liters. The stomach is anatomically related to the liver (to the right), the spleen (to the left), the pancreas (behind it), the diaphragm (above it), and the intestines (below it). It is located above the mesocolon (supra-mesocolic region).
